We’ve got a CRUSHIN’ show for you tonight featuring the mighty Turkuaz and the 11-piece afrobeat ensemble Big Mean Sound Machine.  If you like funk, or music that will make you dance involuntarily, you are not going to want to miss this show.

Turkuaz is a 9-piece “Powerfunk” army hailing from Brooklyn, NY, whose modern twist on the classic sound has placed them at the forefront of a new funk evolution. With the obvious influences—Parliament, Sly & The Family Stone, Rick James and Zapp and Roger—as the basis for a recipe, Turkuaz adds healthy doses ofTalking Heads inspired jittery, world-pop-dance grooves and a passion for The Beatles, Motown and R&B into the mix, resulting in a refreshing update to the funk idiom.

Big Mean Sound Machine formed in 2009 in Ithaca, New York with one goal: to create music that stimulates both Body AND Mind. Today, BMSM’s collective of over 15 analog artists spread out over the East Coast United States bring together musical languages of West Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America to create a lush bed of rhythm and harmony that embraces even the most hardcore fans of both Traditional Funk and Avant-Garde Jazz – and everyone in between! Anyone who has witnessed Big Mean Sound Machine live knows that their performances are among the heaviest and the sweatiest.
